Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

You may need a smaller test called a flexible sigmoidoscopy where we look at the lower bowel. On arrival after the nurse has taken a history and explained the procedure, you will be given an enema to cleanse the lower bowel. We have ensuite toilet facilities so your privacy and dignity will be respected at all times. As with the colonoscopy you will be spoken to by the endoscopist who will explain the procedure and ask for your consent to do the test. You do not normally require sedation and will be able to go home straight after the test with your results.

Following the procedure you may require a colonoscopy, some people require treatment of haemorrhoids which we will arrange for you.
